Norwich City owners Delia Smith and Michael Wynn-Jones had the club's head of recruitment and his wife at their home for dinner the day after their win over Manchester City.

The hosts' starting line up cost just £6.45million to assemble, compared to City's £406.1m.

Kieran Scott was behind the £1.5m signing of Emi Buendia, man of the match against City, and Teemu Pukki, the free transfer who has taken the Premier League by storm.

Smith and Wynn-Jones, who are married and the club's majority shareholders, wanted to thank Scott, who works closely with sporting director Stuart Webber and head coach Daniel Farke.

Scott took over Norwich's recruitment department in May 2017. Kenny McLean, who opened the scoring against City, was another brought to the club for just £200,000 under his guidance.

Pukki has scored six goals in the top flight this season and is threatening to become the greatest free signing in Premier League history. Buendia was brought in from Getafe last year.

In the summer, Norwich's fellow newly-promoted clubs Aston Villa and Sheffield United spent £137.5m and £41.5m respectively. By comparison, the Canaries spent £5.1m.
