The Norwich player who has tested positive for coronavirus has actually tested negative in an independent test with the club doctor, says sporting director Stuart Webber.
The Canaries confirmed on Saturday night that an unnamed player had tested positive for COVID-19 in the latest round of Premier League testing, and will self-isolate for seven days.
As a result, that player will miss Norwich's first Premier League game back against Southampton on Friday but Webber has now revealed the player will have a third test after a second test with the club came back negative, adding that the player is healthy.
'Luckily, the player in question is completely fine and has nothing wrong with him,' Webber told The Beautiful Game Podcast.
'He's actually done an independent test with our doctor which has come back negative which is confusing.
'So now he's got to have a third test to see if that comes back negative and to check, excuse my term here because I might have it wrong, to check if he's got antibodies which could prove he's had it in the past but he doesn't have it now - or something like that.
'It's all very scientific isn't it but the main thing is that he's healthy, and the rest of the group are healthy but it's a good wake-up call.
'All of these measures and one of us can still get it - that's quite scary really.'
The Premier League announced two positive cases of coronavirus among 1,200 players and staff in their latest round of testing ahead last week, ahead of the top-flight's restart on Wednesday.
The Canaries currently sit six points adrift of safety in the Premier League, with just nine matches of the season remaining.
Overall, out of 8,687 tests from the eight rounds in the Premier League, 16 tests have come back positive.
