Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal with Manchester United to sign Dean Henderson on loan with the option to buy for £20million.
The goalkeeper has agreed personal personal terms with the newly-promoted Premier League club, with only the paperwork left to be finalised ahead of his switch to the City Ground.
Forest have been quick to act after Brice Samba informed them that he wishes to leave this summer, with the Congolese shot-stopper keen on a move to Ligue 1 side Lens.
Henderson's move to Forest does rule out the chance of Manchester United midfielder James Garner returning to the Reds as Premier League clubs are not allowed to take more than one player on loan from the same club at the same time. The 21-year-old enjoyed a successful spell at the City Ground last season.
Miltiadis Marinakis has taken over the running of Forest from his father Evangelos and is already going about transforming the club to ensure they remain in the top-flight after ending their 23-year exodus.
Henderson will arrive having played second fiddle to David de Gea at Old Trafford over the last two seasons. He only made three appearances in 2021-22, which came in the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.
The 25-year-old has experience of coming into a newly-promoted team as he spent the 2019-20 season on loan at Sheffield United and kept 13 clean sheets in 36 games as the Blades finished ninth.
He has earned one England cap and was included in the squad for Euro 2020 before missing out through injury, so will hope that regular football gets him back into Gareth Southgate's thoughts before the World Cup in the winter.
Newcastle had also shown an interest in signing Henderson, but a move to the City Ground now looks set to go through.
