On 2 February, Wolves officially announced the signing of Gomes.

Official Statement

England international Angel Gomes has joined Wolves on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The 25-year-old, whose deal includes an option to buy, makes his return to the Premier League on the back of a short spell with Ligue 1 side Marseille, who he’s represented 20 times, scoring on four occasions.

Born in London, but it was Manchester United where Gomes began his career, progressing through the ranks to play ten senior games, five of them in the Premier League.

Capable of playing in a number of midfield roles, Gomes’ break came on loan with Boavista in the Primeira Liga, where his 12 goal involvements saw him given his opportunity at parent side Lille the following year.

It was with the French side where Gomes made his Champions League debut, scoring his first goal in Europe’s top competition against Wolfsburg – one of four European campaigns during his time in France – as he established himself at Lille.

Three seasons of regular football in France led to a senior England debut for the midfielder, who played four times for the Three Lions, having previously won the Under-17 World Cup in 2017 and Under-21 Euros in 2023.

He finished the 2023/24 campaign as Ligue 1’s joint top assist provider, and Gomes spent one more season at Lille, before moving to Marseille in the summer where he once again featured in the Champions League.

Gomes played his final game for Marseille against Angers last month and now returns to the UK as Rob Edwards’ second signing of deadline day.

Edwards said: “I’m delighted, really excited. I’ve got a really good relationship with Angel – we go back quite a long way now. At the FA we got on really, really well. I thought he was a brilliant, technical player, and he's got a great brain. He gives us real quality in that midfield area and it's a really exciting signing for the football club.

“He and I have been speaking for the last few weeks. I explained what we wanted to do and that we would love to have him here, and how he can help us. He's really excited to get playing in England, and it's really exciting for us to have someone who's hungry to be here and wants to show everyone how good is.

“He's young, but he's experienced now, he's got a lot of games behind him. Everything that he brings, his intensity, his energy, his enthusiasm for football, we want him to bring all of that. He's got bags of quality, so I’m looking forward to seeing him integrate into the group.”
