Kylian Mbappé, through his company Interconnected Ventures, has become the majority shareholder of Stade Malherbe Caen, according to a statement released by the Ligue 2 club and his company on Wednesday.

The new Real Madrid player, who almost signed with Caen earlier in his career, is now the majority shareholder of the French club with an 80% stake, replacing the American investment fund Oaktree.

Pierre-Antoine Capton, the current chairman of the supervisory board, remains a minority shareholder with 20%, the statement said.

At 25, Mbappé became one of the youngest owners of a professional football club in Europe through the investment entity Coalition Capital of his company Interconnected Ventures.

According to the statement, the parties are now committed to following the validation process with the relevant authorities, notably before the National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG) of the LFP.

Ziad Hammoud, a close associate of the player and former strategy director of beIN Media Group, has taken over as president of the club. For several months, he has also been the CEO of Mbappé's image company, Interconnected Ventures.

"As the principal investor in this project, we are very excited about continuing the development of Stade Malherbe Caen, alongside PAC Invest," Ziad Hammoud said in the statement, adding: "We are determined to create an environment where young talents can thrive and where the club can passionately and ambitiously uphold its identity."

"It seems that his time spent in Caen during his youth left a mark on him! What a pride to see a champion like Mbappé investing in SM Caen," reacted the Mayor of Caen, Aristide Olivier.
