  /  Cai

Mariano Diaz has officially returned to Real Madrid after spending just one season at Lyon, signing a five-year deal with the European champions.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT:

Real Madrid C. F. and Olympique Lyonnais have agreed a deal for the player Mariano, who will be with the Whites for the next five seasons.

The player will be presented on Thursday 31st August, at 1:30pm CET in the Santiago Bernabeu presidential box.

Mariano will then take to the Santiago Bernabéu pitch wearing the Real Madrid kit. He will then speak to the press in the press room.

Mariano left Madrid for Lyon a year ago for €8 million but the Ligue 1 side have agreed a deal worth a possible €30m (£27m/$35m) for the striker

The 25-year-old forward returns to the Whites after a stellar season at Lyon. He played 45 games and scored 21 goals.

The European champions can count on a player who understands the importance of Real Madrid perfectly (he played here between 2011 and 2017) and last year he became one of the great attacking players in European football.

He is a fast striker, a powerful and clinical finisher. Mariano started his career at Espanyol and in the summer of 2011 he moved to Real Madrid from Badalona. After passing through the Under-19s and Real Madrid C, he moved up the ranks to Castilla in 2014.

One season later, in the 2015/16 campaign, he was the top scorer in the Segunda División B, scoring 27 goals with the youth team. Next stop: the first team.
