Real Madrid confirm Modric & Marcelo tested positive for COVID-19 on their official website.

The club announced: Real Madrid C. F. informs that our players Marcelo and Luka Modrić have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Spanish giants released an official statement on Tuesday, in which it was outlined that the players had returned the results.

The brief statement read: 'Real Madrid CF reports that our players Marcelo and Luka Modrić have tested positive for COVID-19.'

Both players will now enter a period of self isolation and will miss Madrid's upcoming fixture with Cadiz on Sunday.

Madrid currently sit top of La Liga on 42 points - holding a healthy eight point margin over their rivals.

Madrid also notified supporters a day earlier that the coach of their official basketball team, Pablo Laso, and player Thomas Heurtel had also tested positive.

The news comes as more and more footballers across Europe have started to return positive result, as the winter influx of Covid-19 reaches new heights.

Last week, in the Premier League, 42 cases of positive tests were recorded and confirmed by the footballing body.

It marks a peak high for Covid tests, with the largest number of positives since testing began in May 2020.
