Roma have announced the signing of midfielder Amadou Diawara from Napoli for a fee of €21m.

A statement on Roma’s official website also confirms Diawara has penned a five-year contract.

“We have been following Amadou for a while now,” said CEO Guido Fienga.

“He is a player whose talent has been clear to those in Italy for a number of years.

“We are pleased to welcome him to Roma, with the confidence that he can become an important player for the club."

He essentially joins the Giallorossi in a part-exchange deal with Kostas Manolas, who joined Napoli on Sunday.

The moves look separate on paper but, to all intents and purposes, constitute a single transfer.

It allows the Lupi to show profit for Manolas before the financial year that ended for June 30, with the purchase of Diawara moved on to their 2019-20 books.

The Partenopei paid Bologna around  €15m to sign the 21-year-old in 2016, but he went on to play just 74 times in three seasons.

He is currently with Guinea at the Africa Cup of Nations, helping them into the last 16 as the best third-placed team.
