Tottenham Hotspur delighted to announce the signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, subject to international clearance and work permit.

The 22-year-old Netherlands international has signed a long-term contract with the Club and will wear the number seven shirt.

Xavi said: "I'm really happy and can't wait to get going. I've been dreaming of this for a long time.

"It's a great Club and when I met the Head Coach I knew straight away that this was the right place for me.

"I will bring flair to the team but also hard work and discipline. I want to do everything I can to win, for the team and also for the fans."

Our Head Coach, Thomas Frank, said: “I’m really pleased we have brought Xavi in - he is a great addition to the squad.

“He is still young, however he already has good experience and, over the past few years, has played a lot of games at the top level.

“Xavi has proven his ability to get goals and assists, both from the number 10 position and left-wing. He also has a great eye for his team-mates in terms of unlocking defences, and I know he will come in and be part of a good team that is already working hard together.”

A young but proven attacking midfielder who can operate centrally or on the wing, Xavi’s early footballing days were spent with Spanish side Club Deportivo Thader before he continued his development in the illustrious academies of FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

Making his first professional appearance at the latter, stepping off the bench away at SM Caen at the age of just 17-years-old in a French Cup tie, it was in Paris where he first tasted silverware, helping Les Parisiens to both the French Cup and the Ligue 1 title in his first two seasons in men’s football.

Xavi’s breakthrough season though came in 2022/23 as he returned to his homeland of the Netherlands and starred for PSV Eindhoven. Making the perfect start to life in Eindhoven with a goal on debut as PSV lifted the Dutch Super Cup, the then 19-year-old went on to be named Talent of the Season  after finishing as the Eredivisie’s top goalscorer with 19 goals. He also helped his side claim the Dutch Cup in April, 2023.

A player with an eye for a pass and an eye for goal, his stunning campaign in his homeland prompted PSG to re-sign him in the summer of 2023, but a loan to RB Leipzig soon followed - as did more silverware with the Dutchman helping Die Roten Bullen to the 2023/24 German Super Cup on debut. Another impressive term followed for the midfielder as he contributed to 25 goals across all competitions while he also earned himself a place in the VDV Bundesliga Team of the Season.

On the international stage, his senior debut for the Netherlands came at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Coming off the bench in a round of 16 clash with the USA, he became the youngest ever player to feature for his country in the knockout stages of the competition. Part of the Dutch side that reached the last four of the UEFA European Championships in 2024, he has a total of 28 international caps to date, scoring on five occasions.
