Onana undergoes his first Man Utd training session with new teammates in America

Andre Onana finally got to pull on his goalkeeper gloves for the first time as a Manchester United player after meeting his new team-mates and getting stuck into a training session.

The Cameroonian completed his £47m transfer from Inter Milan to Old Trafford on Thursday and has enjoyed a whirlwind few days of flying and carrying out media duties for his new team.

Onana jetted across from Italy on Tuesday evening, underwent a medical at Carrington the next day and flew out to join Erik ten Hag's first-team on their pre-season tour of America on Friday.

The club's new number one replaces the void between the posts left by David de Gea and will have just under a month to get to grips with his new surroundings before the Premier League kicks into life on August 11.

Despite the long travel, Onana was keen to get stuck into training after arriving in New Jersey and enjoyed a debut training session alongside United's stars at the Pingry School training centre.

The 27-year-old joined United's stars for a light session in the sun and worked with goalkeeping coaches on individual drills.

Back-up goalkeeper Dean Henderson worked alongside the club's new star signing and got a first-hand look at Onana, perhaps wondering what qualities his counterpart possesses ahead of himself.

Henderson was raised in the United academy but is set to have his Red Devils career brought to an end with a move to Nottingham Forest waiting in the wings.

21-year-old winger Anthony Elanga is also expected to follow after the two clubs agreed a £15m deal.

Meanwhile, Onana was all smiles as he pulled on a United training top for the first time and underwent simple drills as he is eased into practice after clocking up thousands of air miles in the last few days.

Onana's boots had already been arranged by United's kit team and he opted for an orange pair of Adidas predators as he demonstrated his quality in front of the cameras.

Balls were pelted in from close-range as he was made to produce numerous impressive reflex stops, while also working on his distribution.

United were keen to pursue their new goalkeeper because of his ball-laying abilities that Ten Hag desires from his number one, something that De Gea struggled with before later being released.

Onana also had his aerial dominance tested by coaching staff as he worked on trying to claim the ball in the air while a makeshift defender stood in front of him.

Adoring United supporters waited to meet their new arrival after training and Onana obliged with demands as he took time out to sign autographs and pose for pictures.

He could make his club debut in Friday's friendly against Arsenal at the MetLife stadium as the Premier League duo step up their preparations ahead of the new season.
