'One of our own' - Liverpool transfer theory emerges as shock Chelsea Levi Colwill deal plotted

Levi Colwill faces a somewhat uncertain future at Chelsea until Mauricio Pochettino can make assurance over his game time

Colwill, who sees his contract at Stamford Bridge expire in 2025, featured 17 times for the Seagulls in the Premier League, helping Roberto De Zerbi's side keep five clean sheets. The England Under-21s international guided Brighton to a Europa League qualification spot ahead of Tottenham and, his parent club, Chelsea.

Despite the west Londoners being set on keeping the youngster, there is a lingering doubt over his future which will only be extinguished once he's had a chat with the former Tottenham boss. football.london understand that Jurgen Klopp's side are aware of this and they've made multiple enquiries about Colwill's availability.

In the meantime, fuel has been added to a transfer theory which is quickly building a head of steam. Speaking to Goal in 2021, the Chelsea defender revealed that he grew up idolising Steven Gerrard, and had posters of the midfielder on his bedroom wall.

While Colwill didn't explicitly admit to being a Liverpool fan at the time, an old image posted on social media has since all but confirmed supporters' suspicions. Last August, after making his Premier League debut with Brighton, the defender's former youth coach Lee Hudson shared a picture of him wearing a Reds shirt as a child.

After the post was unearthed, it has been lapped up by Liverpool fans with some already claiming 'he's one of our own'. So, with that being said, football.london have taken a look at the Colwill to Anfield transfer theory.

@WC_LFC_Torres tweeted: "He wasn’t joking when he said he was wearing Gerrard kits as a kid Chelsea rejected Brighton’s bids for him where he supposedly was interested in staying But if he’s truly a boyhood Liverpool fan, not just a Gerrard fan, he might push a lot harder for this."

@HassayJohn tweeted: "LEVI COLWILL IS A RED #LFC."

@Shaun_Matthews_ tweeted: "Never gonna happen but we should chuck 50m+ at chelsea to test the waters."

@calcio_danny tweeted: "Leviiiiii Colwill, he’s one of our own."
