Ozil predicts Premier League, Champions League and World Cup winners

Mesut Ozil believes Liverpool will fail in their pursuit to win an unprecedented quadruple this season.

Jurgen Klopp's side are still in without a shout of winning four trophies after they lifted the Carabao Cup last month.

They are just one point behind Manchester City in the race for the Premier League, will face Pep Guardiola's side in the semi finals of the FA Cup and will play Benfica in the quarter finals of the Champions League.

Ozil, in a message on social media, has picked his choices to win the Premier League, Champions League and World Cup.

For the Premier League, he believes Manchester City will retain the title - their fourth title under Guardiola in five seasons.

He does however believe that Klopp will guide Liverpool to their second Champions League trophy under his helm.

His most surprising pick perhaps is his choice to win the World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year.

Ozil, who helped Germany lift the trophy in 2014 in Brazil, believes England will go on to win the competition for the first time in 56 years.

England came close to winning their first major competition since 1966 at last summer's European championships.

Gareth Southgate's men knocked Germany out on their route to the final, which they lost via a dramatic penalty shoot-out to Italy at Wembley.

The Three Lions comfortably qualified for the tournament which starts in November and they will be among the favourites to lift the trophy in Qatar.

Domestically, the momentum is behind Liverpool following their recent impressive form before the international break.

The Reds have closed the gap at the top to just one point as City have dropped points over the past two months to Southampton, Tottenham and Crystal Palace.

Liverpool are still to travel to Etihad in the Premier League in what will be the biggest match of the season.

City can also stop Liverpool from winning the FA Cup in the semi finals which take place later in April, and could face the Reds in the Champions League final if they both navigate their way to Paris.
