PLAYER RATINGS: Harry Kane put in a strong showing and provided the only goal of the game

  /  autty

Tottenham stayed third in the Premier League today with a 1-0 win over Brighton.

Harry Kane was assisted by Son Heung-Min for the only goal of the game, while Brighton's forwards struggled to make much of an impact.

The result still leaves Brighton well-placed in sixth, but they do seem to be missing former manager Graham Potter.

Sportsmail has analysed the Premier League clash and rated each player's performance on the South Coast.

Brighton (3-4-3)

Robert Sanchez - Could do little to prevent Kane opening the scoring. Made a few decent saves. 6

Joel Veltman - Nearly caught in possession on a few occasions. Tough evening keeping tabs on Sessegnon. 5

Lewis Dunk - Commanding aerially but found keeping Kane under control particularly difficult. 6

Adam Webster - Few solid tackles. Caught ball watching as Son drifted inside to deliver Spurs’ opener for Kane. 5

Solly March - Pulled a shot just wide in first half. Some nice touches on the ball but could have tested Doherty and Romero more often. 5

Alexis Mac Allister - Unusually quiet and didn’t really affect game. Will want to cement his place as a regular starter under De Zerbi in the coming weeks. 5

Moises Caicedo - Feisty up against Spurs’ midfield three but struggled to get on the ball and dictate possession. 6

Pervis Estupinan - Allowed Son to nip inside to set up Kane’s opener. Few promising moments going forward. 5

Pascal Gross - Struggled to have usual impact on game. Was well marshalled by Spurs’ midfield trio. 5

Danny Welbeck - Linked the play well with onrushing midfielders. A couple of decent efforts at goal. 6

Leandro Trossard - Frustrated for large parts and struggled to get on the ball. 5

Subs

Mitoma (for Estupinan 66mins 6)

Lallana (for Gross 82 6)

Lamptey (for Veltman 88)

Gilmour (for Caicedo 89)

Manager

Roberto De Zerbi - A tough task replacing Graham Potter and trying to keep the momentum flowing. Promising signs of the free-flowing style he is known for but will take time to fully get his ideas across. 6

Tottenham (3-5-2)

Hugo Lloris - Reacted quickly to deny Welbeck just before half time. Efficient in his distribution and composed throughout. 6

Cristian Romero - Looked solid and comfortable in back three. Few nice passes out from the back to start Tottenham attacks. 6

Eric Dier - Won majority of aerial duels and looked commanding up against Welbeck. Led well at the heart of the back three. 6

Ben Davies - A few vital interceptions and still carries a bit of a threat in attack. Defensively strong. 6

Matt Doherty - Some promising bursts forward, lacked quality with final ball. Superb last-ditch tackle to deny Trossard late on. 6

Yves Bissouma - Booked for heavy challenge on Mac Allister on the half hour mark. Tenacious in midfield. 6

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - Led from the front and dominated the midfield battle for large parts. Manager will be delighted with his work rate. 7

Rodrigo Bentancur - Some very nice touches and forward passes. Looks very comfortable as part of a midfield three. 7

Ryan Sessegnon - Received an earful off Antonio Conte just before the break for gifting cheap possession. Defended well overall and looked a threat going forward. 7

Son Heung-Min - Grabbed an assist for Kane’s opener, looked dangerous when running with the ball. Promising signs of him getting back to his best. 8

Harry Kane - Showed brilliant awareness to deftly flick Spurs into the lead. Looked strong up against Dunk. 8

Subs

Richarlison (for Bissouma 70 5)

Perisic (for Son 80 6)

Skipp (for Kane 90)

Manager

Antonio Conte - Cut a frustrated figure at times on the sideline as Spurs struggled to put the game out of reach. Will be indebted to Kane for keeping Spurs within touching distance at the top. 6
