Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos (29) is a doubt to face AS Monaco and Newcastle United after sustaining a hamstring injury whilst on international duty.
Marquinhos, who was captaining Brazil in the absence of Casemiro, suffered the injury during Tuesday night’s defeat against Argentina. Speaking to L’Équipe post-match, he revealed that he feels it is unlikely that he will feature against Monaco in Ligue 1 on Friday night. The PSG captain said that he underwent tests in the dressing room post-match, but still felt pain in the hamstring when he stretched it. “It will be difficult [to play against Monaco on Friday],” said the Brazilian.
Marquinhos added that he hopes to “be back as soon as possible”, however, it may be touch and go as to whether he will be fit enough to face Newcastle in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Should he miss the match, it would likely be Danilo Pereira who would play in his place. Les Parisiens are currently second in their Champions League group, one point behind Dortmund and one point ahead of third-placed AC Milan.
