Paris Saint-Germain beat Arsenal 4-3 on penalties for an aggregate score of 5-4 in the Champions League final to successfully defend their title. They have become only the second side to retain the Champions League crown since the tournament's restructure, following Real Madrid.

Since the Champions League was revamped, Real Madrid were the sole team to achieve a three-peat between 2016 and 2018. Now PSG join them as the second club to defend the title.
If including the pre-restructure era, a total of eight teams have pulled off title defences: Real Madrid, Benfica, Inter Milan, Ajax, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and AC Milan. Real Madrid claimed five consecutive European Cups in the competition's first five editions, while Ajax and Bayern Munich both secured three straight titles.
