Lionel Messi signs for PSG

The biggest transfer story over the summer would of course see Lionel Messi depart boyhood club FC Barcelona on a free transfer.

The Argentine has since linked up with French giants PSG, with his move officially announced on August 10th:

In the weeks since, Messi has now made his PSG debut, with very little to write home about so far.

Messi made his Ligue 1 debut vs Stade Reims on the 29th of August, coming off the bench for 24 minutes.

Messi was then handed his first start for his new club in the Champions League vs Club Brugge. A tie which PSG drew 1-1 and Messi did not score or assist in.

The 34-year-old then started vs Lyon in the league but again provided no goal contributions.

Hakimi on Lionel Messi

Messi has since missed PSG’s last two league ties with what is being reported as a bone bruise.

Now, after spending over a month with him, PSG right-back Achraf Hakimi has been speaking about Messi.

And the defender claims he is surprised by the way Messi behaves, adding he is simply and quiet:

“Building a technical relationship with him is easy! I give him the ball, I run and he will put it where it belongs.

“I was surprised by the way he behaved, he is simple, quiet.”

Hakimi continued:

“For Messi to leave Barca, like everyone else, I didn’t expect it, and when I heard you were coming here, what can I say? A dream for me!” he added.

“I played with many great players and the only one I missed was Messi! I am proud to evolve with such a good footballer.

“To progress, I will pay attention to how he trains, how he plays. It will grow the team and each of the players that make it up. We speak the same language, in addition, little by little we are getting to know each other.”
