Palmer on World Cup Snub: I Won't Cry Over Unchangeable Decisions

  /  autty

On Thursday, British magazine i-D published an exclusive interview with Palmer, in which he discussed his thoughts on not being selected for the England squad for the FIFA World Cup.

You have a popular meme on social media—a clip of you talking to a teammate during a match, scratching your head with a confused look.

"I just go with the flow. To be honest, I think it's pretty funny, but it's actually normal. I'm just doing normal things."

Do you cook?

"No, I once got food poisoning."

Reflect on your upbringing in Manchester.

"I used to watch my dad play football a lot when I was young, and playing myself made me love the game even more."

Talk about Chelsea's performance this season and your non-selection for the England World Cup squad.

"I'm going to relax this summer and have a break for the first time in three or four years, then get back to what I love. This season wasn't great, but that's reality. I won't cry over decisions I can't change. I hope the lads go all the way."

Does watching England's games make you sad, knowing you can't participate in this World Cup?

"If I have nothing else to do, then yes, I'll watch the games."

Expectations for the new season.

"Football is a game of finding opportunities. You might play well in one match but not in the next, and they'll seize on that. That's how football works. I try not to pay attention to outside noise and just do what I need to do."

Who have you been talking to in the last few days?

"I don't get too down. I just talk to friends outside of football. They're normal people, and it keeps me feeling ordinary and grounded."
