Paul Konchesky has left his role as West Ham manager after just one season in charge.
Konchesky signed a two-year contract in the summer of 2022 and won three of his first five games in charge. But a run of poor form at the turn of the year saw the Hammers go 10 games without a win.
After finishing the WSL season with a 3-3 draw against Tottenham on Saturday, it was announced Konchesky would leave his role as manager on Sunday morning.
Konchesky’s departure was his decision, not the club’s, despite the 42-year-old having another year left on his deal.
‘I am proud and honoured to have had the opportunity to manage this club,’ Konchesky said in a statement.
‘My players and my staff have always given me 100% and while some of our results have been disappointing this season, we still have a lot to be proud of, including reaching the semi-final of the Conti Cup. I wish the club well for the future.’
West Ham’s poor run of form from January to May was highlighted on social media by long-serving player Kate Longhurst - who also confirmed her departure from the club this week.
‘Not once in my whole career have I felt so low on confidence and destroyed as I am in this moment,’ Longhurst said after defeat against Brighton this month.
‘If anyone thinks we don’t care, you’re wrong. We as players have stuck together and have got each other’s back no matter what.
‘We need something to change, to bring that belief back and we hope we can do that soon. We’re not representing the club how we want but more than anything we want to change that.’
Konchesky had been with the women’s set-up since 2021, first joining as a coach before being given his first full-time management role after Olli Harder’s departure last summer.
He has previously spoken about his desire to be in the game ‘for a long time’ and it is understood he will look to continue his coaching career.
