Paul Lambert on verge of being sacked as Ipswich boss

Paul Lambert is on the verge of being sacked as Ipswich manager with Neil Warnock reportedly ready to take over.

Lambert has been under increasing pressure following Ipswich's spiraling form, which has left them outside the play-off places in League One.

Ipswich have taken only four points from a possible 24 following a 1-0 defeat against Fleetwood on Tuesday night, which was the club's third straight loss.

Ipswich are ninth in the table and six points away from the top six.

Supporters vented their frustration at the club's current position in the third tier during the defeat on Tuesday night.

They turned on owner Marcus Evans and manager Lambert, who oversaw the second half of last season's relegation from the Championship.

The Mirror report that Warnock, who left Cardiff earlier in the season, is poised to take charge.

A clause in the contract extension Lambert signed until the summer of 2025 could also backfire on the Scot.

Ipswich would be able to sack him for free should Lambert fail to deliver a top-six finish.

The 50-year-old former Aston Villa boss said he had no intentions of walking away following the loss on Tuesday.

Lambert said: 'I never quit. I'm a fighter, everybody knows, and we continue to fight and try and get through.

'We haven't changed anything with the guys, they give us everything.

'The only thing is the expectancy levels on their shoulders - it's the first time they're dealing with this sort of pressure, a lot of them, even the older guys.

'It's a big ask for them as well. It's a totally different pressure expecting to win things to staying in the division and relegation battles.'
