Paul Merson: Liverpool's Joe Gomez will 'struggle' to contain Phil Foden and Jack Grealish on Sunday

Paul Merson has tipped Liverpool's Joe Gomez to struggle against Manchester City on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds have displayed poor form this season and currently lie 10th in the Premier League, already 13 points behind reigning champions and title favourites City.

Merson, who predicted a 3-1 away win for Pep Guardiola's side, told Sportskeeda that centre half Gomez - filling in at right back in the absence of the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold - could be tormented by attackers Phil Foden and Jack Grealish.

He said: 'Joe Gomez was all over the place at full-back against Arsenal as well, and can't see anything but a struggle against Foden and Grealish this weekend.

'Do I see Liverpool winning? No. They're still letting in too many goals. Manchester City have got (in-form striker Erling) Haaland and will still win a lot of games this season.

'I don't see how Liverpool are going to stop them from scoring at least two goals this weekend.'

Gomez replaced Alexander-Arnold at half-time in Sunday's 3-2 defeat against league leaders Arsenal and found things tough against livewire Gunners winger Gabriel Martinelli.

However, the 25-year-old delivered a fine assist for Roberto Firmino as Klopp's men thrashed Rangers 7-1 in the Champions League at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

City's attack is currently the best in the division, with 33 goals from their opening nine games - 10 more than Mikel Arteta's Arsenal.
