Pep Guardiola will be hoping that Xabi Alonso's attendance at training on Wednesday will inspire his team to greater success ahead of their Premier League title defence.
Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder Alonso turned up to City's training session ahead of their big kick-off against Arsenal on Sunday at the Emirates.
The Spaniard was spotted in deep conversation with Guardiola before sharing a joke with the City manager and his coaching staff on Wednesday in Manchester.
Alonso also warmly greeted the players as they walked out for training, including French centre back Aymeric Laporte.
Guardiola and Alonso have forged a very strong friendship after the manager brought the latter to Bayern Munich back in 2014 before going on to win three Bundesliga titles.
