Phil Foden has heaped praise on Erling Haaland as the Norwegian striker looks set to make his first competitive outing for Manchester City against Liverpool in the Community Shield this weekend.

Haaland made the £50million switch to the Premier League champions earlier this summer, after a prolific spell in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund.

After hitting the ground running with a goal just 12 minutes into his first appearance for the Citizens in a pre-season friendly against German champions Bayern Munich, Haaland has clearly left a sizeable impression amongst the City squad.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Foden said of his new teammate: 'He's a great addition to the team, makes everyone laugh and is humble which is important when you come to a team. He's hungry to achieve things with us which can only mean good things.'

The England international added: 'In front of goal he's scary. He's coming to a complete different league [with] much faster football, so it might take him a little (time) to get used to, but I'm sure when he's in his flow he's going to be unstoppable.'

City managed 99 league goals last season despite not having a recognised centre forward, with Pep Guardiola's team lifting the trophy for the fourth time in the last five years on the final day of the season.

With a wealth of creative talent to supply him, the Danish striker will likely have ample opportunities to showcase his finishing this season.

'If we can get him the ball in the right areas he is gonna be really important for us this year.' Foden continued.

Foden had been absent from City's pre-season tour of the US, but Saturday's Community Shield could see him lineup alongside Haaland for the first time.
