Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang blasts Gabon FA for not making his injury public

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has blasted the Gabon FA for not making his injury public after he pulled out of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mali.

The Arsenal forward will miss the match on Saturday after his doctor notified the organisation he is suffering with a back issue.

The 29-year-old has been left frustrated by the fact that the Gabon FA has not given the reason why he will be absent at the weekend.

'It's bizarre. Any FA will publish the reason why one of its players can't report for international duty,' he said.

'But in this case, our association definitely received an e-mail from my doctor (saying I am injured). However, they still haven't made this fact public.

'People are going to say that Aubameyang declined to turn up. It looks as though I have refused to come along for a different reason.'

Gabon are currently second in Group C, one point behind leaders Mali in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group.

Gabon boss Daniel Cousin, who had spells at Rangers and Hull during his playing career, did back up Aubameyang, he said: 'We received an email from Arsenal's club doctor.

'It told us that Aubameyang still had pain in his back and that he couldn't play for the national team this Saturday.'

The Gunners striker decided to sit out Gabon's qualifier against South Sudan last month.
