The Spurs boss was asked about his chairman's comments on the summer transfer window
Mauricio Pochettino has been talking about Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy's comments on the club's lack of spending in the summer transfer window.
This year Spurs became the first club in Premier League history to not sign anyone since the creation of the summer transfer window.
The north London outfit also failed to sell any of their first team stars meaning Pochettino started the new season with the same squad he had during the last campaign, albeit with a couple of fringe players having returned from loan spells.
At a meeting with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust this month at Lilywhite House, the club's offices alongside the new stadium, Levy and his team were quizzed on the lack of transfer activity and whether there would be funds for January transfers.
In the minutes of that meeting, which have now been released on the Trust's website , Levy's answers are detailed.
"Daniel Levy explained that the club had based the summer window on certain assumptions that some players might be leaving and certain targets would be available," read the minutes.
"Mauricio Pochettino didn’t want to sign someone for the sake of it. He felt there were sufficient players in the squad, and that those coming back from injury would be like new signings."
Pochettino was asked on Thursday afternoon what he made of those comments from his chairman.
"From day one I told you I am never going to judge the words of my boss. He is my boss, he is the owner of the club, I am not going to judge," he said.
"It was difficult to achieve the player we needed. That was impossible. I was happy and am happy with the squad that I have, 25 players. We have no regrets, we are happy.
"When we started the season with three games that we won and we were top of the table people were talking in a different way, 'Oh how clever are Tottenham because they keep all the squad from last season'. After we lost some games all the alarms started to make a big impact in the perception."
He added: "I need to remind everyone that is our best start after eight games, it is the best start in the Premier League for Tottenham and the perception is that we lost to Inter Milan and Barcelona in the Champions League but we have one more point than last season and I am not happy about that because we are fifth in the table and the ambition is to be on the top.
"At the same time we are realistic and with all the circumstance we suffered in the summer, with the World Cup and the player that arrived the week before the start of the season, the risk we took because the challenge was bigger for everyone, we kept fighting and we are very close to the top of the table. We are happy but we are trying to improve, trying to be ambitious and be top of the table.
"We are fifth and the ambition is to be on top but we are realistic and after all the circumstances in the summer, we keep fighting and we are very close to the top of the table. Always try to be ambitious and win games."
Pochettino was asked whether it surprised him that while Spurs had not spent anything, West Ham went out and splashed out more than £100m on new players.
"I am not surprised, in England you have teams like Fulham who spend more than West Ham, different type of club the possibility to sign because it is so healthy the financial in the Premier League," he said.
"When the club cab invest it is good or clubs. And the clubs that need to improve and want to improve and do better than last seen then they need to invest and add quality to their squad."
