Pogba in line to be named Man Utd captain this summer (Sun)

Paul Pogba could be named as Manchester United's new club captain this summer.

The French midfielder wore the skipper's armband as United started the season with a 2-1 win over Leicester but he soon fell out with   Jose Mourinho and in September the then-manager made it known he would never lead the side again.

But Mourinho has since departed and, with current club captain Antonio Valencia set to follow him out of the Old Trafford exit at the end of the season, Pogba is again in line for the leadership role, according to The Sun.

It is said that interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who may keep the manager's job beyond the end of the season if he continues to impress, sees Pogba as the man to replace Valencia on a long-term basis.

Right back Valencia has only featured in five Premier League matches this season and will leave on a free transfer when his contract expires in late June.

Ashley Young has frequently skippered United in Valencia's absence, but Solskjaer acknowledged Pogba's potential for the position earlier this season. He said: 'You can see what winning the World Cup meant to him, so for me, yes, Pogba's captain material.'

Pogba has been in fine form since Solskjaer replaced Mourinho in the Old Trafford hot-seat in December. He has scored nine goals in 14 games under Solskjaer, having netted just five times in the first 20 appearances of the season prior to Mourinho's sacking.
