Mesut Ozil's relationship with Arsenal fans has been a little turbulent over the past season, but the midfielder went some way to rebuilding bridges with his post-match comments on Monday night.
Speaking after his man-of-the-match display against Newcastle, which saw the Gunners move into third, the Germany international afforded himself a cheeky grin when reminded by the interviewer that they had overtaken rivals Tottenham.
Smiling after his impressive display, Ozil said: 'Our aim is to get to the top four so of course we are happy we are in front of Tottenham.
'It is always competition with them but if we play like we play today, we want to win and take all the points to get top four by the end of the season.
'We are very happy. Our aim tonight was to take the three points, we played well and congratulations to the whole team. We are all very happy.'
Happy, too, were the Arsenal fans that picked up on Ozil's grin when being reminded of Spurs' demise.
One supporter stated: 'Mesut just said he's happy that we're above Tottenham. He's a Gooner. Proper Gooner.
'I love him. I truly love Mesut Ozil. What a great performance tonight.'
Another labelled the No 10 simply 'King' while one fan stated: 'That grin from Ozil when the interviewer said now 3rd....above Tottenham. He knows!'
Ozil has quietly impressed for Arsenal in 2019. Unai Emery's side are unbeaten when the 30-year-old has appeared in the league since the turn of the year.
