Purple & orange! Manchester City release striking new third kit

Manchester City have released their new third kit for the 2018-19 season and its purple and orange design draws on retro City kits with its striking sash.

The kit was revealed by Nike on Tuesday and has a purple base with an orange sash going through the body - a look that City fans will be familiar with.

A number of City away kits have involved a sash down the years, but this year's design comes with a twist as there is also map of East Manchester detailed on the kit, with the Etihad Stadium visible within the sash.

City have not had a kit with their iconic sash since the 2010-11 season, in which they won the FA Cup and really kicked on the Sky Blues' revolution.

They wore a red, white and black away kit on their way to winning that trophy, which was their first silverware of the 21st century, and will hope it can inspire similar good fortune this year.

Although the third kit won't be used as frequently as the home and away kit, it is likely to be worn more in Europe than the Premier League and City will hope it can bring them luck on their travels in the Champions League.

They have already got themselves into a strong position thanks to a favourable draw in Group F, which sees them line up against Lyon, Shakhtar Donetsk and Hoffenheim, thanks to starting the draw in pot one.

The new kit was unveiled at the start of the international break and prominently figures record signing, Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerian winger was signed for £60million in the summer and has made four appearances so far, but is yet to score or assist a goal.

He dons the new kit while running in front of a stadium full of fans. The kit also involves purple shorts and predominantly orange socks.

It is a bold look that has received a mix reaction from fans so far. One fan said: 'Big fan of this Man City third kit.'

While many agreed, some disgruntled fans labelled the kit 'absolutely disgusting'.

Another Twitter user said: 'One day we'll have a nice third kit... But not today I guess.'
