Queens Park Rangers are emerging as favourites ahead of Championship rivals Nottingham Forest to sign Bournemouth defender Steve Cook in next month's transfer window.

Championship duo QPR and Forest have targeted experienced defender Cook to come in and bolster their defensive options in January.

The 30-year-old, who is in the final six months of his contract at Bournemouth, has been subject to interest from several clubs looking to improve their defence.

Cook has not been a regular in Scott Parker's side this season, but he put in a man-of-the-match performance in against league leaders Fulham at Craven Cottage earlier this month.

Bournemouth are willing to let Cook move on in search of regular first-team football as he is down the pecking order at the Vitality Stadium.

Club captain Cook is the longest-serving member of the Bournemouth squad playing a key role for the Cherries in their rise from League One to the Premier League.

Cook, who has made over 380 appearances for Bournemouth, is viewed as a key target by QPR and Forest because of his experience and leadership qualities and they are ready to try and land Cook for a cut-price fee in January.
