Camavinga lunged into a poor tackle and was pardoned by the referee and then given respite by coach Carlo Ancelotti, who hooked him at the break for Rodrygo.
Rodrygo stroked home five minutes into the second half, with his compatriot Vinicius Junior later scoring, but having the goal ruled out for handball. It was a marginal call, given it struck the forward’s upper arm and shoulder, and Madrid complained bitterly.
Sevilla midfielder Rakitic said after the match: “Camavinga should've been sent off & the goal Vinicius scored was a clear handball.”
“For me, tonight, the referee was against us.”
“I don't know why there were so many protests.”
Hitting back at the handball accusation, Ancelotti stated after the match: “I don't understand. We don't understand how Vinicius's hand can be whistled a handball and not Diego Carlos's.
