Celtic supporters have been shut-out of the first Old Firm derby of the season, with Rangers turning the blame on their rivals for the late breakdown.

The old rivals are set to face-off at Ibrox next Sunday in the fourth game of the Scottish Premiership season.

Both sides have three points from two games this season, setting up a tense affair as Celtic aim to snatch back their title after having their decade of dominance ended last season.

Ibrox Stadium will be Celtic-fan free next Sunday for the first Old Firm derby of the season

Celtic have already been handed a blow, with Parkhead stunned after their neighbours decided to bar their fans from their face-off, according to the Daily Record.

Rangers had printed and sent-off 700 away tickets for the match, but pulled a U-turn with the Scottish champions reportedly growing frustrated at talks stalling over the return fixture.

Celtic were believed to be intending on allowing Gers fans into Parkhead for the match on 2 January, but had yet to provide concrete numbers.

The club must keep sections of their ground sterile for a coronavirus 'Red Zone', which has seen affected home fans moved to other seats.

Rangers wouldn't wait any longer and dropped news of their green and white ban on Friday, to the shock of Celtic chiefs.

Since 2018 the number of travelling fans has been reduced from 7,000 to just 800 to reduce the tension at the historic fixture.
