Fulham's Raul Jimenez has been slammed for his red card tackle which has been compared to 'an awful Kung-Fu kick' in their match against Newcastle.

A VAR check confirmed that the Fulham forward deserved a straight red card for his high tackle on Newcastle's Sean Longstaff.

Whilst it appears that Jiminez's foot did not connect with Longstaff, the Fulham player has clearly bodied his Newcastle opponent, which would largely be considered as dangerous play, especially on a second viewing.

On Soccer Saturday, Sky Sports presenter Simon Thomas likened the tackle as 'an awful Kung-Fu kick'.

Mail Sport's man at the ground Craig Hope wrote on X: 'Seen a replay... that has to be a red card.'

When referee Sam Barrott upgraded the card, Hope added: 'And so it is... Raul Jimenez sent off for serious foul play. He was out of control & landed his airborne backside in the face of Sean Longstaff'.

Fans on social media were similarly quick to slam the Mexican for the dangerous tackle, with one claiming it was 'Stupid stupid stupid by Raul Jimenez', and a second adding: 'Not sure how Raul Jimenez can argue that one lol'.

Another X (formerly Twitter) user said: 'Jimenez kicked out at AND threw his body at Longstaff. Wild'.

'Incredibly stupid and dangerous by Jiménez,' wrote another, adding 'Definite red card'.

Another noted: 'Raul Jimenez! Very reckless! A red card all day! Too careless'

There were no goals in the first half at St James' Park, with Newcastle looking to secure a more successful domestic outcome following their European exit in midweek.

Newcastle's next outing is a trip to Fulham's West London rivals Chelsea in the League Cup on Tuesday night, the same night the Cottagers travel to Everton for their Carabao Cup quarter-final.
