Ray Parlour has divulged a story from his days at Arsenal, involving fellow midfielder Emmanuel Petit and encouraging the Frenchman to be more polite.

Parlour and Petit played together at Highbury for three years, before Petit moved to Barcelona in the summer of 2000.
But, upon Petit's arrival from Monaco in 1997, Parlour revealed how Petit had to immerse himself into the team culture and banter very quickly.

'We had a little bit more fun, the British guys, and they were a little bit more serious [the French guys],' Parlour said on Talksport.
'We tried to get a bit of fun out of them, they did change quickly and they did enjoy the banter.
'But every now and again, Emmanuel Petit sometimes would walk straight past you. You'd say 'Morning Mannie' and he'd walk straight past you, and he did that to all the players.

'So we had him once nailed to the wall, 'make sure you say morning to everybody', and if you don't we'll cut your ponytail off!'
Parlour and Petit won the double together in 1998, and formed a domineering midfield alongside Patrick Vieira.
'He thought it was just a job, but no we're all together, it's like a family,' Parlour continued.
'We've got to stick together, we go through highs and lows together and that's what makes a winning team and he certainly got the hang of it.'
