Real Madrid set cut-price Gareth Bale fee amid Man Utd transfer interest

Real Madrid are ready to offload Gareth Bale in a cut-price deal this summer to get his off the wage bill.

The Welsh winger is due to return to the club following international duty during which he gave an interview admitting he was trying to leave Madrid.

Bale claimed Madrid were making it "very difficult" for him to move on but now it seems they are willing to bend on their demands to facilitate his exit.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Madrid are prepared to accept just £22million in exchange for Bale.

Everton have just paid a similar fee for James Rodriguez and Bale's price tag could entice more interest from the Premier League.

The 31-year-old's wages could still be a problem but given his age and his desperation to leave Madrid he is thought to be willing to drop his demands significantly in order to secure a move.

Man Utd are believed to be keen on signing Bale but their priority is completing a deal for Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho.

Former Real Madrid president Roman Calderon recently claimed an unnamed English club bid £89million for Bale close to deadline day last year, only for Madrid to reject the proposal as they thought he would play a part in their season.

That followed the Spanish club's decision to thwart Bale's mega-money move to a Chinese Super League side.

"I tried to leave last year and they blocked everything at the last second," Bale told Sky Sports last week. "It was a project I was excited for but it didn't materialise.

"There have been other instances where we have tried to go but the club won't allow it or they have done something.

"So I guess it is for the club [to answer about what will happen]. What can I say? I want to play football. I am still motivated to play football so I guess it is on the club really. I can't do anything, they are in control of everything.

"I have a contract so all I can do is carry on what I am doing an hopefully something comes up.

"It is in the club's hands and they have made things very difficult to be honest."

Bale is now expected to meet with Zidane on Wednesday to determine how to proceed with both parties keen to go their separate ways.
