New York will be treated to a Madrid derby this summer with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid set to meet at New Jersey's Metlife Stadium in the International Champions Cup.

The game will take place on July 26 and will be the first time the pair have clashed outside of Europe, following in the footsteps of the Clasico in Miami by taking Spanish derbies overseas.

"There's no doubt that it'll be an attractive match," said Emilio Butragueno.

"Atletico are a great team and it will give the New York fans the opportunity to experience what a Madrid derby means."

Miguel Angel Gil echoed the excitement, saying it would allow American fans to understand the rivalry.

"The idea is to take the rivalry to the US," he stated. "They are two different ways of seeing and playing football and two club models."
