Redknapp calls for VAR overhaul in EPL after offside ruling about Pukki goal

Jamie Redknapp has called for changes to be made to the use of VAR after another goal was ruled out under dubious circumstances in the Premier League.

Norwich's Teemu Pukki had the ball in the back of the net during his side's home tie with Spurs on Saturday, but the goal was disallowed as the Finnish striker's arm appeared to be marginally offside.

It was the second decision of its kind on Saturday, as Max Meyer of Crystal Palace was denied his goal after Wilfried Zaha appeared very closely offside during Palace's draw with Southampton at St Mary's Stadium.

And Redknapp feels the implementation of VAR with regards to the offside rule must be revisited before the start of next season.

'I think they have to change the rule in the summer because the shoulder…fans don't appreciate it right now.,' he said on Sky Sports.

'The rules are the rules and we have to trust in the technology but it's extremely harsh. It says that the shoulder was in an offside position, it's an incredible goal but I suppose we have to trust it.'

The use of the video assistant referee has been a hot topic over the last few days of Premier League action. Wolves' sensational comeback win against Manchester City on Friday night was marred by VAR intervening on a number of occasions, halting play for around six minutes.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo shared his thoughts on VAR after the game.

'If you take the referee to the screen and he sees it in slow motion then he can decide better,' he said.

'He knows the pace of the game. Slow motion in VAR cannot judge. You know what I am saying? Let's trust more the referee.

'He can feel, see and measure everything, even the reactions of the players. There are so many things that can help the referee.'
