Report: What changed about fans and Pochettino during Spurs game last night

  /  Stamfordblue

Reports have claimed that Tottenham fans refused to sing Mauricio Pochettino's name last night as he closes in on taking the Chelsea job.

According to The Athletic, supporters did not follow suit from recent chants that have been going since their Champions League elimination to AC Milan.

Pochettino has emerged as the number one candidate to take the Chelsea job after a number of other candidates have begun to fall by the wayside.

Luis Enrique impressed early on in the process, however later talks saw the club cool their interest in hiring the former Spain boss.

Then, Julian Nagelsman became many people's number one candidate for the job, especially considering the timing of his dismissal from Bayern Munich.

However, the lengthy recruitment process and other candidates coming to a head seemed to spook the German, who had thought the job was essentially already his.

Spurs fans stop singing Pochettino's name

This has given Pochettino a clear run for the role on a permanent basis, with talks reportedly going really well between both parties.

The Argentine has a well-known strong relationship with Chelsea's rivals, Spurs, after a successful spell with the club during the 2010s.

While a trophy was not won to end their embarrassing streak without silverware, he took the club to their first and only Champions League final in 2019.

Todd Boehly has reportedly been convinced about the appointment after noticing positive reactions from supporters regarding the rumours.

Spurs are currently in the middle of their own hunt for a new permanent manager after relations with Antonio Conte broke down earlier this season.

While their fans will have been wanting Pochettino, it looks like they may be in the market for Nagelsmann, with Ralf Rangnick already recommending the role to the up-and-coming manager.
