Richards explains how Haaland can help Kevin De Bruyne get Man City statue

Erling Haaland can help Kevin De Bruyne get a statue at Manchester City, according to former Blues defender Micah Richards. Haaland has only played 18 times for City since signing this summer, and has already scored 23 goals and would be on course to breaking plenty of records if he continues his scoring rate.

And when asked if Haaland can rewrite all the record books, Richards pointed towards his teammate De Bruyne as someone who will be pivotal in getting the striker more goals. If he does, Richards feels De Bruyne's own legend-status will only be enhanced.

"He's the best, but Kevin De Bruyne's important in this," Richards explained. "We can talk about Haaland all we want, but if Kevin De Bruyne stays another five years, he'll break all records. Will he be long enough to break the Alan Shearer record? Probably not, these players like to move on and like new challenges.

"His goal record so far is ridiculous. What's so good is he's hardly in the game - forget watching the rest of the team, just watch his movement and the way he's always alive in the box. People don't give him credit and say he's not had enough touches - he's not here for touches! When you're watching the ball as a defender and that's why De Bruyne's so important.

"De Bruyne plays it before you've already thought about it, and he's already making the run. That's why it's a match made in heaven. If De Bruyne was to leave, maybe Foden could do it but you're talking about De Bruyne who's arguably one of City's greatest-ever midfielders. As long as De Bruyne stays, Haaland will break all the records, just because of the chances he creates."

It's not just De Bruyne who can help Haaland break records, though, as Richards agreed that the Belgian can become 'the greatest' at City with a striker like Haaland to supply.

He explained: "100%, he equalled Henry's record of 20. I always said Silva was the best ever, not because I played with him, but when he received the ball he'd do things I've never seen people do. He'd get the ball with three men on him and keep it. How's he doing it? It was madness.

"Yaya Toure, the season he scored 20 Premier League goals, I thought no-one's going to beat those two. De Bruyne now, especially if he brings home the Champions League, he could be the greatest. I don't want to disrespect the old greats like Colin Bell, that was before my time. Wow, Kevin De Bruyne right now is ridiculous.

"Vincent, Aguero, Silva have statues, Kevin De Bruyne gets one, he's the next one."
