Robbie Fowler admits showdown with Manchester United is 'bigger for Liverpool'

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler believes the pressure is on his old side more than Manchester United for this Sunday's table-topping showdown.

The Reds have slumped in recent weeks whereas surprise leaders United are three points clear and heading to Anfield full of confidence.

Former Liverpool striker Fowler thinks the game is bigger for the hosts as they will be desperate not to find themselves six points adrift ahead of a tough few weeks.

That said, Fowler also tipped Jurgen Klopp's side to win it and believes they'll be quietly confident.

He told Sky Sports: 'It is massively important, certainly for Liverpool now because obviously they find themselves behind in the table, and they don't want to get further behind.

'I think they'll go into this game quietly confident. They're not playing unbelievable stuff at the minute, but they are there or thereabout and knowing that if they do get this right result then it puts them in such a good space and ready to go on from there.

'It's a huge game. It's probably bigger for Liverpool because of the situation the clubs find themselves in. I'm a Liverpool man, so Liverpool are going to win the game.

'When you win these games it can make your whole week.'

Liverpool come into the game without a win in three, drawing against West Brom and Newcastle then losing to Southampton last time out.

Fowler, currently managing East Bengal in the Indian Super League, understands the importance of the game and it could have a significant bearing on whether the Reds can defend their title.

Liverpool have not lost at home for three-and-a-half years so despite the shaky recent form, will be confident they can see off their traditional foes.
