Rooney gives Premier League prediction - Man Utd fans would love this

Manchester United began life under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's leadership with an emphatic 5-1 win away to Cardiff City on Saturday.

Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard all got on the scoresheet, and the club's all-time leading scorer was at the ground to take it in.

Wayne Rooney was a guest on BT Sport's coverage of the match, in which Man Utd scored five goals in a Premier League game for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

As positive as United fans will be feeling after such an attacking performance, one thing will still be concerning them - Liverpool sitting at the top of the table.

Jurgen Klopp's men have been on fire this term and Rooney shared his thoughts on the possibility of them pipping defending champions Manchester City in the race for the title.

However, Rooney brought up a concerning statistic that's emerged in recent days. Over the last decade, only two teams to top the Premier League table at Christmas have failed to go on to win it - and it was Liverpool on both occasions.

Spoken like a true Evertonian and Man Utd legend, Rooney couldn't help but re-state that fact when asked for his opinion on who will be crowned English champions come May.

During BT Sport's Premier League Tonight, he said: "I think they (Liverpool and Man City) are the two teams, as hard as it is to say, who people enjoy watching.

The 33-year-old forward, currently in the MLS with D.C. United, continued: "I still think (Manchester) City will win it (the Premier League).

"Over the last ten years, only two teams who've been top (at Christmas) have not won the league and both of them was Liverpool, so... hopefully that's the story again.”

So, England's former captain and record goalscorer clearly doesn't want the red half of Merseyside achieving what would be their first league triumph in over 28 years.
