Ruben Neves revealed he watched the birth of his third child on his phone on the coach back after Wolves played Crystal Palace last week.
With his wife in Portugal, the midfielder has not been able to see his family as travelling there would have meant missing matches due to the quarantine rules in place.
Instead he was on FaceTime with his wife after staying on the bench during the Crystal Palace game, but it's a sacrifice Neves has accepted and told WolvesTV it's just part of the job.
He said: 'I watched it on my phone on the coach when we were coming back from Crystal Palace.
'It's not easy to be honest, it's really hard. It's really hard to not be there for an amazing moment for my family.
'Of course I wanted to be there but that's the world we live in at the moment. So we need to get used to it. We need to do everything we can to solve things because we are in big problems.
'My wife went to Portugal because her doctor is from there. She had problems with our first baby so we always want to go with the same doctor. That's why it was our decision to have the baby in Portugal.
'I thought from that time I would be able to go but apparently I needed to stay here because if I go I will need to stay out of two or three games when I come back. It's my job so I prefer to stay here.
'I give all the support I can to my family from here. And I know they will soon be here with me.'
The Portuguese international returned to Wolves' starting line-up against Arsenal on Tuesday night, helping his side to a 2-1 victory to put an end to a run of eight Premier League matches without a win.
Neves scored from the penalty spot to equalise for the hosts after David Luiz had been sent off for bringing down William Jose, before Joao Moutinho put Wolves ahead after the break.
And Neves paid tribute to the latest addition to his family with his celebration after scoring his third goal of the season.
The 23-year-old has been an regular in the Wolves midfield this season, with the game against Crystal Palace last week the first Premier League match he has not featured in this season.
