Chelsea transfer news: Manchester United being in talks to sign Marc Cucurella could give the Blues the chance to put forward the idea of a permanent swap deal
Mauricio Pochettino could have been presented with a major transfer opportunity after it was revealed Marc Cucurella could seal a summer exit. football.london understands Manchester United have a keen interest in signing the Spain international this summer amid his unknown place in the selection pecking order.
Interest from Old Trafford has arrived after injuries at left-back which has resulted in Erik ten Hag switching his focus away from solving the midfield issues in an attempt to sign a new defender after Luke Shaw joined Tyrell Malacia on the injured list.
Diogo Dalot was deployed in the role over the weekend but a transfer solution is being looked at by Man United with Tottenham's Sergio Reguilon as an alternative option. However, it looks as though the Red Devils have Cucurella as the frontrunner with an official loan proposal submitted to Chelsea on Tuesday with talks now ongoing, according to The Athletic.
While Man United may only be looking for a temporary solution, Chelsea could put forward the idea of a permanent transfer being completed as a swap deal. Several outgoings are still on the agenda for Man United and with ten Hag said to particularly admire Cucurella it could be a suggestion well-received by Man United.
With that said, football.london has pulled together three Man United outcasts that Chelsea could rejuvenate and sign as part of a swap deal with Cucurella.
Jadon Sancho
When Man United's interest in Cucurella was first revealed, Jadon Sancho was the player on the mind of several Chelsea fans and with a formal offer now in place, it is a move that could make sense.
Anthony Martial
To some, Chelsea still need a striker and while injury issues are prominent, Anthony Martial is a proven Premier League goal scorer. The absence of Christopher Nkunku leaves the Blues with Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja, although he is yet to return from a long-term knee injury, as their only natural striker options.
Suggesting Martial in the deal could be seen as short-sighted but it would provide some cover in attack and therefore less pressure on Jackson.
Donny van de Beek
Although Chelsea have done the bulk of their marquee summer business in midfield, Donny van de Beek could be a wildcard option for Pochettino.
During his days at Ajax, the 26-year-old was touted as one of the rising stars of the game before his transfer to Man United in 2020. However, during his three years in red, form, injuries and managerial decisions have made it difficult for him to obtain a consistent starting place.
Negotiations have already taken place for him to leave this summer, showing that the club are open to him departing, with Real Sociedad interested, however that move failed to progress.
