Scholes bemoans how Man Utd failed to 'handle Sevilla's aggression 'after exit

Paul Scholes criticised Manchester United's senior players for not setting an 'example' on Thursday night as they were knocked out of the Europa League by Sevilla.

After throwing away two goal lead in the first leg thanks to late own goals, the Red Devils were beaten 3-0 in Seville on Thursday to end their European hopes.

Scholes felt it was a disappointing night for his former side, as he told BT Sport: 'Look it's a difficult night. They didn't handle the aggression from Sevilla tonight. I still think United are a better team.

'When you come to these places you expect to take examples from your most experienced players. Right from the very first minute de Gea kicks the ball out and then it went downhill from there.

'On nights like this you turn to the more experienced players to try and get some leadership from them. Martinez tonight was a big miss. Looking at tonight it has made ten Hag's mind up on a few of his players. Probably the only help he will get from tonight.'
