Sergino Dest makes a mess of his Barcelona unveiling as he fails to juggle the ball

Signing for Barcelona is a boyhood dream for many footballers, but it can quickly turn into a nightmare if you fail to manage a few keepy-ups at the unveiling.

New recruit Sergino Dest has found this out the hard way as he struggled to show off any of his skill while he was revealed to the Spanish media at the Nou Camp pitch, failing to control the ball a number of times in an awkward introduction.

Being centre stage in the famous stadium can be a daunting prospect, and perhaps the defender prefers to show his qualities on matchday, but his lack of technique with the ball won't impress too many Barcelona supporters.

The United States international starts his demonstration by placing the ball between his legs as he attempts an 'around the world' by wrapping his foot around it - but the move goes horribly wrong as it bounces off his thigh.

He then tries to make a quick recovery by flicking the ball up from the ground to show off some juggling, but loses control as it bobbles away from him.

As it drags it back to the centre to try again for a third time, he is left red-faced once again as he struggles to complete even one keepy-up.

The teenager did manage to redeem himself, however, as the club uploaded a clip of him pulling off an audacious piece of skill - flicking the ball onto his ankle before spinning around and bouncing it off his knee and then onto his toe.

Dest joined Barca from Ajax for £23.5million this week after one season in the Ajax first team - just his second campaign in professional football.

He made 35 appearances in all competitions for the Dutch giants last season before coronavirus ended the division prematurely.

The 19-year-old, who has three United States caps to his name, became Ronald Koeman's first signing as Barcelona boss as he looks to kick-start a new era at the club after selling Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez and Arturo Vidal.

Dest, who should be a direct replacement for Nelson Semedo after his move to Wolves, is not the only Barcelona signing to fluff his lines at his unveiling.

In January the club completed the shock signing of Martin Braithwaite on an emergency deal from Leganes, and in his unveiled he tried too much as he awkwardly bashed the ball against his shin when trying to juggle the ball before leaving it behind as he attempted a rainbow flick.

Ousmane Dembele arrived at the club with a little more expectation having signed for £130m from Dortmund in 2017, but on two occasions he lost control of the ball as he juggled - hitting his backside as he tried to loop the ball over his head with both feet.
