Sergio Aguero has named John Terry as the best defender he's ever faced while fellow Chelsea legend Frank Lampard pips Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes in the never-ending England's best midfielder debate.
The Manchester City legend was forced to retire from professional football back in December due to a heart condition, months after the striker left the Etihad to join Barcelona on a free transfer.
Aguero began his career at Independiente before making a move to Atletico Madrid in 2006. But it was at City where he would make a name for himself, becoming one of the most lethal strikers to have every stepped foot on a pitch.
In his trophy-laden career, which saw him help City pip rivals Manchester United to the Premier League title on the final day with one of the most famous goals ever scored, Aguero came up against a number of the game's best defenders, including Rio Ferdinand, Nemnaja Vidic, Virgil van Dijk and more.
But it was Terry that was the hardest defender he's ever faced in the Premier League following a question on Twitter.
When asked who was the best Premier League centre back he played, Aguero simply replied 'Terry' with a grimacing face emoji.
However, Aguero was not Terry's pick when asked who was the toughest forward he faced in 2015, with the centre back saying Thierry Henry used to give him 'nightmares'.
'Thierry Henry would definitely be the toughest I've played against,' Terry said in 2015. 'I used to have nightmares before I played against him.'
Aguero was also asked who he thought was the best out of Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes – an ongoing debate among England fans – but the decision was simple for the Argentine, given he has previously revealed his admiration for Lampard.
While they only played one season together at City, Aguero and Lampard grew fond of each other and have both named each other as the best in their respective fields previously.
In 2019, Aguero said Lampard was one of the best goalscorers in the world, despite playing predominantly as a midfielder.
He told City's official website three years ago: 'My personal favourite, I'd like to choose Frank Lampard, who in spite of not being necessarily a striker, stands among the top 10 goal-scorers. That deserves praise.'
He added: 'I had the chance to play alongside him and it was a valuable experience. He's every inch a professional and a man you can respect.'
A decade at City saw Aguero win five Premier League titles, six League Cups and an FA Cup, scoring 260 goals in 390 appearances.
His final City appearance ended in the heartbreak of a Champions League final defeat by Chelsea, with another career low point being the 2014 World Cup final loss to Germany.
He helped Argentina win the Copa America in 2021 though, while in five matches for Barcelona Aguero scored once, in a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid.
