Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has revealed the message he received from Lionel Messi after Karim Benzema completed Real Madrid's comeback to knock Pep Guardiola's side out of the Champions League.

The reigning Premier League champions were just moments away from reaching their second consecutive Champions League final, before they were left stunned by Rodrygo's late double.

Karim Benzema then scored from the penalty spot five minutes into extra-time to complete one of the most remarkable turnarounds in the competition's history and book their place in Paris where they will meet Liverpool on May 28.

Messi has been on the end of one of Real Madrid's incredible fightbacks throughout the competition, when Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick at the Santiago Bernabeu to beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 on aggregate.

The Argentine superstar couldn't believe what he was seeing on Wednesday night, as he texted Aguero his thoughts after the third goal went in.

Aguero, streaming live on the match on ESPN Star alongside former City team-mate Carlos Tevez, revealed that Messi sent him a message which said: 'Stop f****** around it can't be.'

Until last summer, Messi played for Real Madrid's greatest rivals Barcelona, so he will be hoping that they don't win their 14th Champions League trophy later this month.

As reported by the Standard, Aguero said before the game that he held fears about City's trip to the Santiago Bernabeu.

He said: 'I want to say that I'm really nervous, I don't know why but I'm nervous.

I want City to go through. I don't know what Pep has in store, I imagine he didn't sleep all night, I know him.'

Tevez, like most watching Wednesday's thrilling game was also stunned by Madrid's comeback.

After Rodrygo's second goal, he said: 'It's crazy, you can't win another game like that.'

It is the third round in a row where Madrid have completed a comeback after also knocking out Chelsea in the quarter-finals.

Chelsea were just ten minutes away from knocking out Carlo Ancelotti's side before Rodrygo scored the crucial goal to take it to extra-time.

Similar to Wednesday night's game, it was Benzema who sealed their fate in extra-time with the knockout blow.

Liverpool will be hoping for revenge when they play Madrid in the final, following their 3-1 defeat to Los Blancos in Kyiv back in 2018.
