La Liga's Sevilla were able to get off to a winning start in the first match of their preseason tour in America as they were able to defeat English Premier League side Crystal Palace at Detroit's Comerica Park.

Fan's attending the game surely got their money's worth as the closely fought contest ended in a 1-1 draw before going to a sudden death penalty shootout.

Ivan Rakitic scored the opening goal to put Sevilla in the lead in the 44th minute after a ball fell to him following a corner kick that he was able to blast across the face of goal to beat the keeper.

Later on in the 75th minute Eze was able to score the equalizer for Crystal Palace silkily gliding past three Sevilla defenders to beat the keeper from a narrow angle to finish off a play that could only be described as filth of the highest order.

Crystal Palace would fire off a flurry of chances as the final moments of the game ticked away but they were unable to beat the goalkeeper for the ever-escaping go-ahead goal.

The penalty shootout was short-lived as following the conclusion of full time as each team took only one shot before the contest ended.

Sevilla also recorded a red card in 80th minute when Nemanja Gudelj

Rakitic fired his second shot into the back of the net to start off the shootout and put Sevilla up 1-0.

Joachim Anderson would then walk up for Crystal Palace needing to slot away his PK in order to keep the contest alive, however he sent the ball off the crossbar to secure a preseason defeat for his team.

Interestingly enough Crystal Palace did not make a single substitution during the match.

Sevilla brought in Dmitrovic, Rafa Mir, Oscar Rodriguez, Juanlu, En-Nesyri and Kike Salas off the bench.

Sevilla's next matchup will be against Guadalajara on Thursday.
