Sheffield United are signing Stoke City goalkeeper Adam Davies on a permanent deal worth around £250,000.

The 29-year old is undergoing a medical on Monday ahead of linking up with coach Paul Heckingbottom again.

The two worked together previously at Barnsley where Davies made over 200 appearances.

Born in Germany, but capped by Wales, Davies was targeted by Heckingbottom after Aston Villa moved to take over Robin Olsen's loan from Roma.

They had initially discussed a deal for Davies's club mate Frank Fielding but Heckingbottom switched once he knew Davies was available, and Stoke were willing to sell.

Davies informed Stoke he wanted to go and watched Sheffield United's win over Luton Town at the weekend.

Davies, who also represented Sheffield Wednesday before heading to Oakwell, twice won promotion with United’s neighbours and also the EFL Trophy ahead of his switch to the bet365 Stadium.

He has made 250 senior appearances since progressing through Everton’s youth system, including 15 this term.

Davies will now provide cover for Wes Foderingham who will likely remain the number one for the Blades.

Heckingbottom wants to add a centre back also and is showing interest in Liverpool duo Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips among others.
