Silva, Stones, Laporte, Sane - Man City injury latest & expected return dates

  /  autty

Finally, Manchester City's injury list seems to be going down.

Before City's Premier League clash with Everton, Pep Guardiola confirmed both David Silva and John Stones would be available for selection against Carlo Ancelotti's new side, and also provided good news regarding Aymeric Laporte.

Stones and Silva have been missed in recent weeks, and their return is a boost for Guardiola, who has navigated the Christmas period without picking up any fresh injury concerns.

And Laporte's return to training on the pitch is a welcome sight. The Frenchman hinted at the development on Instagram earlier this week, before being pictured in City training. Guardiola confirmed he is around two weeks away from returning to full training.

Leroy Sane is still absent, having started training on grass a couple of weeks before Laporte.

Here's the updated City injury list, with expected return dates for the four players who have been out of action:

David Silva

Silva hasn't played since he suffered a 'huge kick' in the Manchester derby earlier in the month.

The Spaniard has been missing for the last six games, but Guardiola confirmed he is back and available for selection for the visit of Everton.

What Pep Guardiola said: "Laporte and Leroy are injured and the rest are okay," meaning Silva is back to full fitness.

Return date: January 1.

John Stones

Silva wasn't the only casualty suffered against Manchester United as Stones was hit with yet another injury just after he had established himself in the side again.

The centre-back has had a torrid campaign for injuries and the latest looked particularly disappointing as he was substituted with his head stooped.

Like Silva, however, Stones will be back for the visit of Everton.

What Pep Guardiola said: In the same update as David Silva, Guardiola confirmed Stones is available for the Everton clash.

Return date: January 1.

Leroy Sane

Winger Sane hasn't kicked a ball this season after suffering ligament damage in the Community Shield but he has finally made a step up in recovery.

The German didn't suffer a full tear of his ACL so it was expected that he would make a comeback in the new year and it became more of a possibility when he returned to the field in training.

He isn't yet playing with the rest of his teammates, which will be the next step of his recovery.

What Pep Guardiola said: "It's the next step to get to the pitch and the next round will be to start training with us and be part of the training session. A full training session is incredibly good news for him and for all of us. This is good."

Potential return date: January/February 2020.

Aymeric Laporte

Like Sane, Laporte was fortunate not to suffer a full ACL tear but has still missed plenty of football and his absence has been a massive blow for City.

He damaged his cartilage and lateral meniscus while going in for a challenge with Brighton's Adam Webster and isn't expected to be back on the field until into 2020.

Laporte posted pictures in City training gear and football boots this week, and Guardiola later confirmed he was training alone but on the pitch.

What Aymeric Laporte said: "He's getting better. He's training alone but already on the pitch. I don't know but he's in the last part. In one week or ten days he can start to train with us."

Potential return date: January/February 2020.
