Everton look as though they are ready to make an audacious attempt to lure Diego Simeone away from Atletico Madrid.
The Toffees are already in the relegation zone after a derby defeat against Liverpool, leading to increased unrest among Everton fans with many calling for a new man to come in and replace Marco Silva.
David Moyes and Marcelo Gallardo have emerged as the early favourites to possibly come in and take over from Silva.
However, Sport Witness claim Everton would want to make snapping up Atletico boss Simeone a top priority.
Reports in Spain suggest the Argentine is coming under pressure himself at Atletico with the club dropping to sixth in the table.
Marca claim Atletico are growing increasingly frustrated with results and that there is a "divorce on the horizon".
And that could prompt a move from Everton, who made enquiries about Simeone two years ago before Sam Allardyce was appointed.
Simeone would also attract attention from clubs all over Europe, but it has been suggested the 49-year-old was at least intrigued by the interest from the Toffees.
Whether or not that would still be the case with Everton where they are in the Premier League table remains to be seen.
