Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown he is not scared to shake things up as Manchester United boss having included teenagers Joe Garner and Angel Gomes in the travelling squad for the trip to Cardiff.
The ex-Reds striker has taken interim charge of United following the sacking of Jose Mourinho on Tuesday morning.
His reign starts against his former club Cardiff and both Garner and Gomes, two of the stand-out performers from the academy, are pushing for involvement in the matchday squad.
Gomes is considered one of the brightest stars emerging through the club's youth system and has been on the periphery of the first team in recent seasons.
He featured against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in May 2017, which saw him become Manchester United's youngest player in the Premier League era.
The young attacking midfielder is lively with a low centre of gravity and is a player the supporters are keen to see given an opportunity in the first team.
The 18-year-old was also included in Mourinho's squad for the FA Cup game against Yeovil in January and he replaced Marcus Rashford with two minutes to go.
For Garner, his rise to prominence has been more recent than that of Gomes' having signed his first professional deal back in May.
He earned a spot on the club's pre-season tour of America in the summer and has been impressing coaches having held his own in training with the first team.
At 17, Garner has a big future ahead of him and he will be learning plenty from those more experienced having earned a spot on the bench in the recent Champions League defeat to Valencia at the Mestalla.
Solskjaer is keen to utilise the club's youth players and that will boost both Gomes and Garner as they bid to earn spots in the 18-man matchday squad.
